Plan your diet based on your blood type

Updated on March 20, 2013

As I age it feels like fat just jumps on my mid-section. If I had known how dangerous fat around the middle could be when I was younger, I might have done preventive maintenance. Now I try everything but honestly don’t have the discipline to follow any plan consistently. Last night I heard about the “blood type” diet. Helen, the lady who told me about the diet, said she had lost twenty pounds and her brother had lost 25 pounds just eating according to their blood types.

Dr. Peter D’Adamo is the genius behind this biochemical weight loss endeavor. According to Dr. D’Adamo, “following the Blood Type Diet for a period of one month or more” improves health conditions for three out of four people. Following a blood type diet reportedly improves digestive function, resistance to stress, overall energy and mental clarity. All of these are added benefits to the objective of weight loss. Helen said she followed a higher protein lower-carb diet because that was the prescribed diet for blood type “O”. She did not count calories and, if true, did not even exercise. If Helen can do it, so can I.

Blood Type B

I researched my Blood Type, B. According to information on dadamo.com, the biggest factors in weight gain for Blood Type B are corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts and sesame seeds. These foods, for type B’ers, cause fatigue, fluid retention, and hypoglycemia. I love corn and raw tomatoes. This presents complications. This Type B diet suggests replacement of chicken with goat, lamb, mutton, rabbit and venison. As I write this, I can see that this is another diet that will go by the wayside. I cannot bear to think of eating these meats.

Stress and blood type

Dr. D’Adamo’s research shows that people with Blood Type B have higher levels of cortisol. People with Blood Type B are at increased risk of depression, insulin resistance, hypothyroidism and high stress. I’m getting stressed out doing this research. I see suggestions I will take but now I have to find a diet that is right for me.
